Off-Grid System

FAQ | ON-GRID SYSTEM WORKING | SIZING |

What is Off-Grid System ?

Off-grid system is not connected to the electricity grid and therefore requires battery storage. Off-grid solar systems must be designed appropriately so that they will generate enough power throughout the year and have enough battery capacity to meet the home’s requirements, even in the depths of winter when there is generally much less sunlight.

Where Off-Grid Systems are recommended ?

Off-Grid systems are recommended for those areas where intensive power cuts are major problem. It is also called stand alone system or alternative source of energy if we compare with Gen sets.

Can we get power during power cuts ?

Yes, Off-Grid system does not require any ac sensing so it is also called stand alone system.you get power anytime anywhere.

Where these systems can be installed ?

In any type of building weather grid is available or not.

What are the benefits of Off-Grid System

  1. It is stand alone system, you can install anywhere, weather grid is available or not.

  2. It can be installed for high surge load also.

What are the limitation of Off-Grid System

  1. System needs designing as per load only then cost of the system is defined.

  2. you can run your priority loads only (recommended)

  3. Cost is too high due to batteries as the system powered load via batteries.

  4. This is an alternate source of energy so you cannot save much energy due to reoccurring cost of batteries.

  5. Intensive care and maintenance is needed for the systems and batteries.

  6. if you over load your system as per design the life of batteries starts decreasing.

  7. you need separate load wire to run the load with the inverter not like in ongrid and Hybrid systems

HOW TO SIZE ON-GRID SYSTEM STEP BY STEP FAQ

What is the maximum capacity in (KW) system is recommended for my building ?

On-Grid system are installed with 80% capacity of the consumer's total sanctioned load.

For Example : If the total sanctioned load of the consumer is 10 KW then 8 KW would be the maximum capacity consumer can install so consumer can install from minimum of 1kw -8KW as per roof top available.

How can i reduce maximum bill charges with perfect sizing ?

If you are living in the same building for at least 1 or 2 years then we can check the annual consumption in the electric bills in consumption history in KWh of the last 12 months or the data can be requested from your distributor. Now divide total annual consumption with 12 months and then again divide with 30 days. we will get per day average consumption.

For example : January 230 units , February 250 units, March 290 units, April 550 units, May 570 units, June 580 units, July 540 units, August 380 units, September 350 units, October 300 units, November 250 units, December 210 units.

Total annual consumption : 230 +250+290+550+570+580+540+380+350+300+250+210 = 4500 units

average per month units : 4500 /12= 375 units

average per day units : 375/30= 12.5 or 13 units per day average

Solar system produces 3.5 units/ KW | 4 units /KW | 5 units / KW | 6 units /KW (depending upon quality and efficiency of system)

In above example let us take 5 units/KW

System Capacity would be 13 units / 5 units = 2.6 KW so we can go for 3 KW solar on grid roof top

What is the total area required for system ?

It requires 110 Sq feet or 10 Sq meters of area per KW. It mean 1 KW system requires 110 Sq feet or 10 Sq meters of area.
